The “Ten Outstanding Young Men” award is bestowed annually by the U.S. Jaycees upon “a group of leaders for their vigor and enterprise in attacking societal problems — and offering solutions.”
Roger Billings, one of the Ten for 1980, was chosen from hundreds of nominees by a panel of seven judges.
Upon receiving the award, Billings said, “One of my life goals is to create an environment where (scientifically creative) people can come out of college and not be so structured, but can develop freely and achieve some great things for tomorrow.”
Despite the success he has enjoyed in his career, Billings believes that he is still in a state of trying to accomplish.
